InVision: Design Disruptors

Posted on September 21st, 2017

Following the most amazing movie of 2016 — The Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things by The Minimalists and Matt D’Avella — and finding more about a realistic 21st century philosophy and discovering how much of an inspirational and educational source they are, I was simply intriqued to keep on finding out more…

Now. Imagine a kid in a sweet shop. I had pretty much the same expression when I found out that Matt D’Avella directed another movie — Design Disruptors: How Design Became the New Language of Business. Now imagine someone totally inspired. That’s a lasting feeling after the recent London screening. I’d recommend every second of it! Just go watch it!

“The 21st century has seen massive change in the world of business. Traditional industries have been shaken to their foundations by startups that seem to spring up out of nowhere. How are they doing it? With design. In Design Disruptors, you’ll meet top designers at the world’s smartest companies, and discover how design has become the new language of business.”

Designer’s recommendation: podcasts

How often do we search for a visual inspiration? Every day, every week, every month? As designers, it is something we do to get inspired, to spark the idea and to get the creative juices flowing. It’s simply part of the fun and part of the actual work process. And how often do we look for inspiration from external — non-visual — sources? Those that would have a profound effect…

Tate modern: Offprint 2018

Highly-anticipated independent book fair, Offprint 2018, did not disappoint this year either! Taking place in the wonderful Tate Modern in London and running over 3 days, every visitor had a chance to get beautifully lost amongst rows upon rows of tables with generous displays of books, zines, posters and everything and anything in between. One might say that Offprint is a creativity boost, a moment for reading the unexpected or…

Whitechapel Gallery: Thomas Ruff

Yet again, Whitechapel Gallery brings an incredible exhibition to the attention of many photography admirers. Thomas Ruff’s simply titled Photographs 1979 – 2017 is seriously inspiring body of work, bringing together 18 different photography series. Ruff’s presence of evolution from one topic to another, from one medium to another and from one process to another is what makes this vast photography display so rich and appealing to the eye of…

Paris: Centre Georges Pompidou

Centre Georges Pompidou is the home of Musée National d’Art Moderne, the largest museum for modern art in Europe; and IRCAM, a centre for music and acoustic research as well as a huge public library and cinema. Being one of the most iconic buildings in Paris, Centre Pompidou’s strikingly unique exterior and interior aesthetics matches its collections on display. The contemporary art exhibitions are truly amazing. Anything from the world…

Paris: Urban Festival: Rehab2

Paris is a great city known for its beauty, breathtaking sights and cultural richness rooted in centuries old art, architecture and traditions. It’s definitely a destination for any art enthusiast. Most of us are surely familiar with Musée du Louvre, the home of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa; Musée d’Orsay that mainly exhibits french art; or the Centre Georges Pompidou which houses a vast public library and the largest museum…

Foyles: The Rise of Riso

It was quite frankly a bit of a shock to find out that Somerset House’s yearly Pick Me Up does not run anymore. It was a brilliant exhibition dedicated to showcasing graphic art and illustration that also accommodated tonnes of interesting workshops and lots of unique little shops. Gladly, I have recently came across ELCAF, The East London Comics & Arts Festival, that also hosts a lot of smaller exhibitions.…

The British Museum: Hokusai

Everyone is surely familiar with fairly recent Kozydan’s piece Uprisings, otherwise might known as Bunny Wave, but how many of us are actually aware of the fact that this piece is based on Hokusai’s Great Wave? And I have to admit, I didn’t, until a very special super human pointed out the art of this great master. “Uprisings” by Kozydan Image credit. Kozydan’s website. The British Museum is currently running…

Tate Modern: Offprint

Any lover of printer matter is surely familiar with Offprint book fair. In collaboration with London’s Tate Modern for the third year running, it hosted over 140 independent and experimental publishers from around the World. There were some fantastic publications, books, zines and other interesting paper mediums with content covering mainly contemporary art, photography and graphic design. Offprint also offered program of workshops and performances. Exploring the fair with a…

Tate Modern: The Radical Eye

Back in March, when the weather in London was still a bit indecisive, some indoor-based explorations were the right way to go. London’s Tate Modern was having an interesting line up of wonderful exhibitions, and being a hopeless admirer of any black and white photography, I knew straightaway what exhibit I was going to treat myself to. The Tate Modern showcased The Radical Eye – Modernist Photography from the Sir…

Daniella Zalcman: Photographer

We are so used to seeing super polished, trendy, retouched and clean cut photography these days. Everywhere. On the inspiration blogs, in magazines, on instagram. It was really refreshing coming across work of Daniella Zalcman. There is this raw, beautiful, truthful quality about her work — it almost reminds me of the times I used to mess around with negatives and exposures in a darkroom… I particularly like her double-exposure series New…

Calligraphy class: Sandra Fernando

About 5 years ago, my graphic design class graduated and everyone bursted in to the world of design. It has been amazing finding out what the others are up to and how far they’ve come ever since… Yesterday, I went to Sandra Fernando’s “An Introduction to Modern Calligraphy” class and immensely enjoyed it. We have learnt so much — from how to take care of the nib and other calligraphy…

Paolo Pettigiani: Photographer

This Italian photographer Paolo Pettigiani has got some serious talent — looking at these beautiful photographs, it’s obvious he’s got fantastic sense of composition with playful geometry, symmetry and minimalism — almost abstract interpretation of architecture. It’s like the most clever way to create art from what is essentially… an art form already. Clever. “I really like discovering new reality and I’m interested in finding the minimal side of the…

Playtype: Type Foundry and Shop

For those of you who are not familiar with Playtype — it’s a Danish type foundry and type design led product shop. I remember it being my big must-go-to-place when I was visiting Copenhagen last year. The shop itself is tiny, but full of beautiful “designery” items — anything from posters, notepads, apparel, pens and pencils to ceramics. And all with the amazing, simple and well-thought-out Playtype stamp on it — clever…
